How to Sign "Sister" in ASL

Category: People
Handshape: L-hand into index

Step-by-step

  1. Start with an L handshape at your chin (thumb along your jaw).
  2. Move the hand down and forward, changing to an index finger.
  3. End resting your dominant index finger on top of your non-dominant index finger.

Deaf-culture tip

The chin start marks it as female; the finger-on-finger ending means 'same'.
